Sponsored: Do you like Dogs and Reading? Volunteer at the DRES Reading Night…

Volunteers needed for DRES Family Reading Night. March 2, 2017 from 5:30-7:30pm at Durant Road Elementary.

Family Reading Night is a fun night where younger students, grades K through 2, are able to come in and read to a dog.  The dogs are trained therapy dogs. Not all volunteer opportunities involve the dogs, so if you do not care for dogs, they can still use your help.

Volunteers will do one of the following:

1. Registration desk (event coordinator will be at this location to start). Volunteer dog teams will check in here. — and you can shift to help somewhere else after the event starts. Also help with collecting service project donations.

2. Accompany guest readers — control traffic flow in and out of classroom or media center. No dogs will be at this location.

3. Literacy games and dinner in the cafeteria — no dogs will be at this location. Need one or two people to help with food table. There will be a staff person at this site to give you direction.

4. Accompany guest dog teams — handler and dog — to classrooms and monitor the room / usher in the families / help keep volunteer dog teams on time (appointments are of a short duration) / help clear out families at end of event. We have gift bags to hand out but this may take place at the end of the event as people are leaving.

At the end of the event there will be a hot dog dinner for all volunteers as a thank you.
